OREGON RURAL ACTION

Oregon Rural Action (www.oraction.org) is a nonprofit committed to a healthy, democratic, and just society with membership chapters in Union, Wallowa, Malheur, and Baker counties. Organizers have initiated an effort to bring together businesses, residents, and community leaders to strengthen community self-reliance through the promotion of local entrepreneurship and the purchase of local products. A research assistant is needed to support the development of this broad-based effort.

Primary responsibilities:

1. Research
   Collect background data on the local economy, which will be essential in the development of educational materials and in assessing the success of the effort.
   Administer a local resident survey to gather insight on buying habits and knowledge of locally produced goods.
2. Strategy development
   Collaborate with Oregon Rural Action organizers and community leaders to develop effective outreach strategies, using collected background research, to accomplish project goals.
3. Administrative support
   Contribute to the content of Oregon Rural Action’s website and newsletter.Assist with report writing and provide general administrative support to staff.

Requirements/Skills Necessary? Availability for part time work. Will pay volunteers who have work study.
